Each level of the Achiever Series has been divided into two teaching units, each of which represents approximately 10 weeks of learning. This provides a tangible goal for the student and a framework for the teacher. Below is a brief summary and explanation of the categories of pieces. Books 1, 2 and 3 are currently available with book 4 to be released in the near future. Each book comes packaged with a CD featuring arrangements of all the pieces.
Repertoire Pieces come in a variety of styles. These pieces are so called because they are solo performance works. They require the student to combine musical expression and individual flair with technical assuredness.
Keyboard Ensembles/Piano Duets are included to develop ensemble playing skills.
Keyboard Harmony examples are designed to introduce or reinforce particular concepts relating to harmony, chord relationships and chord stryctures. Students should be encouraged to transpose these pieces into manageable keys.
Finger Zips are used in the Achiever Series to develop particular areas of keyboard technique. The examples usually relate directly to repertoire pieces, keyboard harmony examples or scale playing.
Sight Reading is included as an essential element. There are 20 examples in this book.
Chord Sight Reading gives students experience at reading and playing from a chord chart. Although it is expected that the student will play only chords, some students may have the ability to also play the melody.
Scales are set out in a variety of formats including several unique graphic versions. This allows scope for independent study and provides for a range of learning modes.
These features are presented as an integrgated teaching sequence and are designed to provide a thorough and balanced approach to music education.
